The Travel Payment Lifecycle

Booking Created

Guest books online or through an OTA channel. Payment is authorized and a hold is placed on the card — no charge yet. The authorization confirms the card is valid and funds are available.

Pre-Authorization Hold

Funds are reserved on the guest's card for the expected stay amount plus incidentals buffer. The hold remains active until check-in without triggering fraud flags on advance bookings.

Day 0

Check-In / Departure

At check-in or trip departure, the pre-authorization is captured for the confirmed amount. Any difference between the auth and actual amount is adjusted automatically.

During

During Stay / Trip
